Tower Blocks: A Short History of Public Mass Housing in Britain
From 30th July - 11th August 2018 this Tower Blocks exhibition, together with our pop-up Museum Box, will be in place in Aberdeen Central Library. The exhibition features a display of ten information panels offering a short history of tower blocks and public mass housing in Britian. For this event, the Museum Box has been filled with material relating to Aberdeen and the surrounding area, including photographs, slides, documents, newspaper articles, and more.
Tower Block UK: Closing Event
This one-day conference was held at the University of Edinburgh, and featured walking tours, talks, and presentations. Many of the contributions to the day were made by representatives of organisations and by individuals, with whom we have collaborated in past events. Representatives included Historic Environment Scotland, Scotland's Urban Past, Our Place in Time, docomomo, and many other researchers, residents, and community groups (June 2018)
Cumbernauld: A Short History of a New Town
This exhibition focuses upon the social and architectural history of Cumbernauld from its inception, featuring photographs, advertising material, letters and plans from the 1950s through to the 1990s. The exhibition was held at Cumbernauld Library (June 2018)
Housing History Afternoon: Inverclyde
This afternoon event, held at Inverclyde Heritage Hub, included talks given by architectural historian Diane Watters (Historic Environment Scotand) and Vincent Gillen (Social History Curator, Inverclyde Hertiage Hub), as well as the Tower Block Exhibition and Pop-up Museum Box (May 2018)
